A surprising event at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club

By: October 28, 2016

Next week, we will see in Abu Dhabi a historical moment. The Saadiyat Beach Golf Club (Gary Player designed seafront golf course: par-72 course, which will be set up at 6,337 yards / 5,795 meters for the championship) will host the Ladies European Tour’s 1st competition in Abu Dhabi, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open between 2-5 November 2016.

The event is organized by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA), in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC). It seems like the UAE would like to lead the way in the advancement of women in their society.

The Saadiyat Beach Golf Club (managed by Troon) will host 126 of the best female golf professionals, including LET number two, Beth Allen (USA), Melissa Reis (England),  and Camilla Lennarth (Sweden). They will compete fro the AED 2,021,250 (US$550,000) prize fund.

The organizers did not leave anything to chance. Visitors will be able to watch golf clinics with Annika Sorenstam (among the others) and ask directly from the players in the LET Communications Hub. In addition to this, they will be able to get free golf lessons.

For youngers, the HSBC Future Falcons will bring street golf to the village. They will be able to enjoy SNAG (Starting New At Golf) as well.

The Saadiyat Beach Golf Club was selected in 2015, as Abu Dhabi’s best golf course at the World Golf Awards.

I hope there will be more and more Emirati woman will start to play golf and the Ladies European Tour will get as much attention as the men’s European Tour. 🙂
