Do we need golf industry exhibitions?

By: September 22, 2009

As the kick off day of Golf Expo in Munich (Germany) is getting closer, I am start think about what do we gain from such old fashioned industry exhibitions. As reading the website of Golf Expo, it turns out that some key players of the golf industry are missing like Acushnet (manufacturer of Titleist, FootJoy, Cobra, Scotty Cameron and Vokey Design) or Srixon, Cleveland, Ping just few to mention.

My doubt is the reason why industry exhibition were founded is the lack of opportunities between continents, countries and companies to communicate and make business smoothly. Some of them have political reasons like Cold War between Warsaw Pact countries and EU&US, but obstacles had technology aspects as well.

Thomas Friedman in his book (The World is Flat) explains it very well, how the technology helped countries to cooperate. With the latest technologies we are able to globalize the local developments and solutions. Thanks to such services as Skype, GoToMeeting, Adobe etc you can do whatever you want. Well who's interest to keep all thes antique solutions?

Anyway, I am happy that Octoberfest will be there and I can enjoy two great things golf and German beers. 🙂
