Cleveland Golf’s legal battle against Callaway Golf

By: July 30, 2014

Cleveland Golf has settled its legal dispute with Callaway Golf® Company over usage of the Roger Cleveland name. The case, which is captioned Roger Cleveland Golf Company, Inc., et al. v. Callaway Golf Company, Case No. 8:13-cv-01642-AG-RNB, was pending in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and had been filed last year. The terms of the settlement are confidential.

The hole story started last year October when Cleveland Golf claimed that multiple federally registered trademarks, were infringed upon.

It is not so clear to me when Roger Cleveland (before joining Callaway Golf in 1996) sold all of his shares and ownership interest in the Roger Cleveland Golf in 1990, did he also sold all of his trademarks as well?

At the same time I would say, Callaway Golf (Callaway’s Mack Daddy 2 wedges were released in July 2013 with “DESIGNED BY ROGER CLEVELAND” printed on the back of the wedges.) does not need such trick to sell more Mack Daddy 2 wedges.
