What are the trends in golf mobile application development?

By: September 28, 2012

Back in 2010, Adobe found (Adobe Mobile Experience Survey) that people generally favor the browser experience over downloadable mobile applications, except when it comes to games, social media, maps(!) and music. Accessing maps and directions is the #1 mobile activity (81%). From my personal experience I see that mainly men are the heavy users of mobiles in general and very likely also in mobile applications as well. Thanks to the high level of smartphone penetration golf industry also become part of the lure of mobile application development.

Just to understand the importance of mobiles: in 2011, smartphone adoption alone reached 38% in the US and it is projected to grow to 48% in 2012 (source:“US Mobile Usage Forecast,” eMarketer, April 2012).

I guess you are already familiar with the following iPhone golf GPS mobile applications:

  • Golfshot
  • AirVue
  • GolfLogix
  • Golf Link
  • ViewTi
  • Golfscape
  • iGolf
  • Orrie Golf
  • Sonocaddie
  • TreeDoid
  • SkyCaddie
  • Goplanet Mars
  • Snooper Shotsaver

Thanks to LinkedIn I met with Anthony Douglas the founding partner of Hole19. Hole19 is a brand new golf GPS mobile application from Portugal. Anthony Douglas said, that Hole19 Golf GPS mobile application is the top paid mobile application in the Sports Category (in iTunes Apple)!

So I thought that it can be interesting to read what do they think about golf GPS mobile application market and in general about the mobile application usage trends. Next week I will publish on behalf of Anthony his post(s).
