Why is Boeing technology tempting for Callaway Golf?

By: January 5, 2016

I think we can all agree that aerodynamics is not new to the golf industry. However, only few golf equipment companies are utilizing aerospace technology solutions, although it is not so far from the usage of aerodynamics. In last August, I had already written about how Cobra Golf conducted in the International Space Station a material science research for their KING LTD driver.

Now, I found that Callaway Golf is interested in Boeing‘s aerodynamics knowledge to provide the most forgiving shape for the new XR 16 Driver and to achieve more ball speed.

Features of XR 16 Driver

Callaway Golf re-engineered with aerodynamics experts of Boeing the Speed Step Crown to save weight and add more ball speed. They developed a larger shape for MOI, stretched out the crown with a bigger footprint, and put in a Center of Gravity that’s lower and deeper.

The new XR 16 Driver features the next generation R*MOTO Face Technology ( the previous version is used in Big Bertha Alpha 815 Driver), that’s up to 19% thinner and the body is lighter too, which leads to more ball speed across the face. The XR 16 driver comes stock with a Fujikura Speeder Evolution 565 Shaft.

The XR 16 Driver will be available with lofts: 9*, 10.5*, 13.5*HT. It will be available in the US from 1/29/2016.

Official pricing: $349.99

The XR Fairway Wood golf clubs come with thinner Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup for even more speed and a large sweet spot.Fairway Wood Models: 3+, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11

XR Fairway Wood golf clubs will be available from 1/29/2016. The official price will be $229.99 each.
